How to Cook Beans: Hearty, Delicious Recipes

Beans have long been lauded for their high protein and iron content, and the good news about their health benefits just keeps on coming. Recent research out of St. Michael’s Hospital in Toronto, Ontario, found that people who eat more dried beans (along with lentils, chickpeas and peas) tend to feel more satiated, and therefore have an easier time losing weight or maintaining a healthy weight. Eating beans may also counteract the increased risk of colon cancer associated with consuming red meat, according to one new study published in the journal Cancer Prevention Research. Beans have also been noted for helping reduce risk of cardiovascular disease. On top of all that, there’s no denying that beans are delicious—another reason to make one of these nutritious bean recipes tonight.
