Ways to Honor World Food Day 2016

The Food and Agriculture Organization of the United Nations (FAO) celebrates World Food Day on October 16.

World Food Day began in 1945 when 42 countries gathered in Quebec, Canada, to form the FAO with two goals -- eradicate hunger and malnutrition, and improve the global food system. 

This year's theme is Climate Is Changing. Food and Agriculture Must Too. They explain, "FAO is calling on countries to address food and agriculture in their climate action plans and invest more in rural development. By strengthening the resilience of smallholder farmers, we can guarantee food security for the planet’s increasingly hungry global population also reduce emissions." We also love the FAO's list of daily decisions you can make that combat the effects of climate change.

These ideals and practices are important to all of us here at Edible. We're big believers in sustainability, reducing food waste, respecting farmers, and thinking critically about our food system.
